How Veridex works

Veridex is an evidence browser. It does not “know” who someone is — it collects what public sources say, shows you those sources, and explains how strongly they connect.

The pipeline

  1. 1

    Validate & normalize

Your query is checked and normalized (emails lowercased, phone numbers converted to international format, usernames stripped to the bare handle).

  2. 2

    Dispatch to sources

Only sources that can answer this query type run — each with a timeout. A source that fails is reported as unavailable, never as “not found.”

  3. 3

    Store the evidence

Every result is stored with its source URL and retrieval time. If it isn't stored, it isn't displayed.

  4. 4

    Group with reasons

Records are grouped into clusters by published rules — shared verified email is strong; same handle plus a similar name is medium; name similarity alone is weak. The rules that fired are the explanation you see.

  5. 5

    Show provenance

You get the summary, the evidence feed, and the confidence & provenance — including conflicts and stale results, labeled as such.

Sources

SourceWhat it providesAccess
GravatarEmail → public profile (name, avatar, linked accounts) — only if the person uses Gravatar.Official API · free
GitHubEmail/username → public developer profiles.Official API · free
Numbering-plan dataPhone → validity, country, line type, original operator (offline data + operator tables).Offline · free
Web evidence linksName/username → links to review in your browser. Framed as links, never as resolved data.Links only
Veridex reportsPhone → spam/business reports from Veridex users, moderated before they display.First-party
Breach checkEmail → a link to check breach presence yourself. (The data API is paid; Veridex links out rather than pretending.)Link only

Platforms without a legitimate public API (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and similar) are not integrated — Veridex can only offer search links for manual review. Any product claiming a phone-number-to-Facebook-profile lookup is using data obtained in ways Veridex won’t.

Confidence labels

Scores are heuristic match scores, never probabilities. Every label expands to the reasons behind it.

Strong match · 80–100

A shared verified attribute, e.g. the same public email on two profiles.

Likely match · 55–79

Same handle plus supporting similarities.

Possible match · 30–54

Partial overlap — needs your judgment.

Weak signal · 1–29

Name similarity only. Collapsed by default.

Found something wrong?

Every result and report in Veridex carries a “Report incorrect match” action. Corrections are reviewed by moderators and the audit trail is kept. Your own data can be exported or deleted at any time from the Privacy Center.
